Sponge center square to look like marble

Stencil Center Design

A Gorgeous Treasure

I loved this occasional table the moment I saw it at the second hand shop. It was in great shape even with the marks and dings and I was drawn to the curve of it's graceful legs.

It sat in a corner for 10 years waiting for just the right treatment and was the inspiration for my new Furniture Border and Elements Stencils.

I sanded and primed the table then painted it jet black. Using one of the designs from my new Furniture Borders #1 Stencil Set, I applied a border to the curved legs in gold metallic paint.

I used another border stencil around the outside edge of the top of the table then created a center square in the middle of the table using tape. Funny, as I labored to get it straight and used piece after piece, my own frustration caused me to come up with my new Furniture Background Stencils (coming soon!).

Inside that square, I sponged light brown paint and dark brown paint, blending softly with a dry terry towel. Suddenly, it looks like marble. So easy and fun!

Using the wreath design from my Furniture Elements #1 Stencil set, I added a central design to the inside center of the faux marble square.

I taped again outside the marble square and painted a solid gold border, then added the same border stencil that I had used at the edge of the table over the top of the gold framing. Stenciling this border in black over the gold border gave more interest to the table top.

The tiny lower shelf was completed similarly to bring the entire piece together beautifully! Three coats of clear, non-yellowing varnish and now the beautiful design elements of this table are protected.

Finally, I have completed my vision of this little jewel and it will have a permanent place in my new home. I'm so excited!

Now, dash off my creative, inventive friend and find that piece of furniture in your home that you have considered giving away and turn it in to a beautiful piece that is gift worthy, or worthy of showing off instead of hiding away!

These new furniture stencil designs are sized perfectly for small areas, perfect for combining with one another to create elegant designs on your cabinets, furniture, drawers, scrapbook pages, greeting cards and any small craft project you can think of! You will be using these stencils for years.
