Decorating with Cast Plaster

So many ideas, so few walls

When ever I create a new mold, I can't help but to become very excited at the prospect of all it can do and I begin scouring the walls for an open space in need of a beautiful design.

The great thing about cast plaster from a mold is that when it's painted the same color as the wall, it winds up becoming "architecture" rather than just an ornamental design.

It gives a room more attached detail just as crown or chair rail molding does and goes a long way in creating interest in a room without having to worry about what color it should be to make it coordinate.

Casting plaster is easy, putting it up is easy, and if you give yourself a little creative license, designing with it is easy.

A simple light fixture can go from plain to fancy with the addition of just two molds. Take the design in the top photo where Eddie McMillan combined our Plaster Small Cartouche Mold and our Floral Arch Mold to create the beautiful surrounding design.

The same mold used with our Painted Ladies Mold creates a medallion for use on plain ceilings.

But even just one mold can create an impact. Encircle your light fixture with the  Floral Arch Mold and then use the same mold as a scalloped border around the inside of the ceiling for breath taking results.

It's easy to come up with designs and more fun than you can imagine because the possibilities are endless.

To get started, simply choose one or two of your favorite molds. Cast a number of plaster pieces from them then lay them out on the floor or table in different patterns. Squares, circles, ovals, rectangles, straight borders and arches. Then look around your room and above your head to see where those lovely shapes could be placed to create the beauty you desire.

If you need some suggestions, simply email me with your favorite choices, where you might want to put them and let me help you with suggestions.
