Decorating with Window Treatments

Country decorating with a bit of wood and a single length of fabric.

Joan Gross, got my immediate attention with her first email to me showing me her creative hand painted designs, the incredible mural of palm leaves she created with our raised plaster stencil and her eye for design... This is one talented Lady!

Her creativity isn't limited to painting however.... it seems to make it's way in to everything she does.

Her bay window is such an example.

Being handy with wood working tools, Joan and her husband crated the wooden cornice you see above the window (these aren't difficult to do and even a simple 3 sided box with a top added can give you some of the same looks).

Her valence is a single length of material with decorative trim added to one edge. A rod was attached to the wall slightly above the window and simple "clip on hooks" were attached to the fabric in 4 equally spaced places, spaced about 12-18" apart. The amount of drape you get between the hooks depends entirely on how far apart you place your hooks.

I've used this same method in my master bedroom with sheer cream colored fabric and it's just gorgeous!
