Decorating with Window Treatments

Flea Market "Trash" is Victoria's Treasure!

They were pretty ugly when I found them, painted a brilliant blue and sitting on that dusty shelf.... but my mind's eye saw the potential! At only $5.00 each (and there were 6 of them!) I couldn't pass up the deal!

I brought them home, painted them cream and used gold paint and an artist's brush to bring out the fine lines and details of the leaves.

Our new home in Idaho was screaming for just a gentle touch around it's massive front windows. Nothing that would hinder that beautiful view of the forest and valley, but something to add interest and elegance.

I found a GREAT deal on Ebay for very long (140") white sheer window scarves and went to town creating my new treatment.

Hanging corbels at every junction of window or door, with the center corbel being hung about 6" higher than the rest, I simply sewed 3 panels together and fed them through the holes in the center of the corbels.

Two side windows were treated with the same type "sheer" valence I found at Kmart with white fringe. (I also bought the same set to hang over the kitchen window and rear glass door to match!). They were only $12.00 each.

The look is elegant and sophisticated without being over bearing or disrupting what the focal point of that front wall is in the first place: The view.

See the lamp on the table? Well, guess what! I bought that at the thrift store too! It was only $9.00! It's metal base was flaking somewhat so I took a wire brush to it and used a gold antiquing kit on it. Looked brand new.

The base is REAL marble and I found the most perfect shade for it at Lowe's for $14.00. It really fits the look I was going for. Simple, yet elegant.
