I'm a thrift shopper... OK, an "addicted"
thrift shopper who found a solid wood, oval coffee table for just $10.00!
The varnish was cracking and peeling off,
it had scratches and dents and the finish was completely faded and
un-even... but the wood was solid and the construction was great so I hauled
it home....
After stripping off it's very dark finish,
I gave it a good sanding and re-stained it.
But you know me, I can't leave anything
plain...
I took one of the designs from our "Raised
Plaster Small Designs #2" stencil and stenciled it across the oval edges of
the table.
With a little artists brush, I then hand
painted small gold vines all the way around the outside edge of the table
and connected them to the design I had stenciled.
Two coats of varnish later and my new
table is the perfect addition to our home in Idaho. Can even YOU tell that
it's not a NEW table that might fetch $300-400.00? Neither can anyone else!
