Kathleen Aste beamed
with pride when she finished her
Raised Plaster Art Deco
Border Stencil Border on her
living room walls and I can see why! Against that lovely sage background, it
looks just incredible! Not only that, she had fun doing it. Now with it
finished and under her belt, I could tell she was eyeing other rooms for
more designs. (A sign of a true artist in our midst!).
She was careful to tape off against the ceiling so the joint compound did
cause her more work in clean up after the project was done (certainly worth
it for the effort that would have been!).
With our "Skip" method of plastering borders, she was able to continue to
work while waiting for the plaster to dry.
Designer's tip: To create a repeated border without
having to wait for each repeat to dry before placing the next, simply do the
first, skip the second, do the third, skip the 4th and so on. It's easy!
Just measure the width of the design and scoot the stencil edge that far
over.
So if the design is 16" wide, plaster the first one
then move your stencil over 16" and plaster it again. By the time you have
done the room this way, the previous plasterings will be dry enough to do
your missed repeats.
