Florida Colors and Raised Palm Trees

Kathy Boyd, has that "Florida warmth" going on here!

Sunny colors on the walls and a golden Raised Plaster Palm Tree super brightens this room!

Detailing from the trunk and leaves add actual "architectural" interest to the decor.

In earlier times, moldings, trims and interesting architectural detail was just a part of building a home. But for many reasons, (including economical ones), the late 60's and early 70's brought a new "norm" to the home building industry. That was as little "detail" as possible to make homes more affordable to more people.

Any plain room that lacks moldings, trim or other architectural interest benefits immensely from plaster stenciling and cast plaster since it actually "raises" the design off the walls, creating shadow and depth you can't get with any other decorating finish. Even embossed wallpaper doesn't hold the same "shadow" effect as true plaster.

Kathy took advantage of that fact and put her tree on a wall that has no moldings or detailing from wood trims.

Bet she gets tons of comments on it! Great job Kathy!

Designer's tip: If your home lacks architectural interest, you can not only apply real raised plaster moldings to your walls, but cast plaster in the form of borders, moldings and more! Click the Ornamental Raised Plaster link to the left to learn more!
