We've all had them at some point in
our lives; the dreaded "UGLY KITCHEN CUPBOARDS!!!" (Every woman's worst
nightmare!).
But you don't have to live with them
anymore!
This is a cupboard door from a
salvage yard that I decided to rescue.
A good washing with white vinegar to
remove any oils and grease, two coats of pale taupe semi-gloss paint and our
Raised Plaster Belinda Panel stencil was all it needed to become a beauty
waiting to grace those cabinets!
And it was such a cinch! Since the
inset was longer than the stencil, what I did was to begin in the center and
plaster the first repeat. When that was dry, I then slid the stencil up to
the top edge and plastered just a portion of the design. I did the same at
the bottom end. Due to the intricacy of the design, it's difficult to tell
where the design starts and stops.
For total kitchen durability, once
the plaster was dry, I painted over it with the door color then simply laid
the stencil back over the raised design and painted it white.
A new gold knob finished the project
and I am now wishing I had these in my own kitchen! (But there are still 17
cabinet doors in our home in Idaho I must do something with... maybe this is
it!!!).
Now, take that stencil and apply it
to the wall only up to chair rail level then add a railing made of cast
plaster from one of our beautiful molds.
You will have a kitchen that you will
want to show off with a bit of entertaining.
