Decorating with Stencils

Carol Wallace gets creative and stencils

baby birds in a "hole in the wall"!

Carol Wallace is one of the most creative people I know.

Not only is she a professional writer, and expert on gardening, lending her expertise to the Suite 101 college website, but she's also quickly becoming a stencil expert!

Carol is also the "foreman" so to speak on our Yahoo Groups Wall Stenciling club, providing unique and creative ideas and solutions for many of your issues.

Carol did this adorable little design on her faux cinderblock wall in her home. (also stenciled).

Carol's eye for the unexpected just amazes me. And her use of colors to coordinate. You can use any combinations of designs you choose. Search our site for little "ditty's" to add an interesting twist to your mural!

Designers tip:

To create a very realistic block, brick or cinderblock wall design, sponge 2-3 paint colors (for instance, deep gray and light gray) in to each stencil opening and then lightly flick a toothbrush with either white or deep gray acrylic paints (wipe out all excess first of course) over the top of the stencil openings to create speckles of color like real stone!). Pre-paint your wall the color you wish your "grout" to be.
