Decorating with Stencils

An Antique Farm Mural With Options Galore!

Kathy Sterling got creative with our "Farm Mural" design and took it way beyond what I did when I designed it.

Wanting that "antique" farm look, she used soft colors and barn red for her tractor, stretched those hills to roll on forever and placed her elements to give you the feeling of a real old time farm design on her walls.

Her use of colors was fabulous, very pale and soft, and I love how she created the sky behind, the colors of the mountains to compliment and "green fading down to yellowish" hills to resemble fresh cut "hay fields" beneath the stenciled hay stacks.

Dotted with trees of various sizes and a full stenciled stone fence, Kathy made good use of all the elements.

I always look forward to Kathy's emails and submissions. She's fun to show off!

Designers tip:

For mural work, I tend to prefer acrylic paints since they are opaque rather than translucent as stencil creams are. Being opaque, you can stencil flowers to actually "cover up" the base of a tree, stencil the tree to "cover up" the background painted beneath. Things tend to look more realistic.
