Decorating with Stencils

Check out Nina's Plaster Bath, you won't believe it!

Nina Ripley  absolutely blew me away with this Bath re-do. Wow girl! The colors, the detail, the creative use of designs and wait until you see the "to die for" tissue holder that is her own crafting!

Bare walls to Nina are like bare walls to me: a CANVAS!

On the main wall, she color washed golds, pinks and oranges to create a beautiful sunset backdrop her her life-sized plaster tree.

She pre-colored the joint compound to make her job easier and applied branches and leaves until her tree was nearly up to the top of the ceiling.

She then added raised plaster birds in various colors flying around it in that cotton candy colored sky.

Nina then took the Plaster Vine stencil and wound it around light fixtures, the "porcelain throne" itself and the doorway.

But the kicker to me, was this wonderful tissue holder crafted out of a downed tree branch, some varnish and a few silk branches. Too cute!

Great job Nina! And so clever!

Designers tip:

If you want colored raised designs, it's easy! Just mix a batch of the color you need by adding Powdered Rit Fabric dye. It won't dilute the thickness of the compound. Do mix only a little at a time however, instead of the entire bucket since joint compound goes a very long way!
