Decorating with Stencils

Raised Plaster Columns add Elegance to Blah Music Studio Walls

Apply first overlay of column top, let dry then do the second overlay.

Repeating the center portion of the columns down the wall

Using the column top upside down as the base.

I've always loved architectural columns, so when one of my first plaster stencil designs was our Raised Plaster Life-sized Columns Stencil Set .

My husbands music studio in our basement, with all of it's long, blank walls was the perfect place to test this new design.

The design was super easy to execute and in just one day I created 6 of these large, lovely columns (and that includes the drying time!).

Starting at the top of the wall, I used the first overlay of the column top against the ceiling, let it dry and then did it's ornate overlay.

I then began repeating the column center down the wall and used the same column top as the base (just flipping it upside down). I could then do the last repeat of the column center.

A quick wash of translucent wall glaze mixed with warm brown acrylic paint gave the columns more detail and presence in the room. I used my original wall color to touch up around the columns as necessary to rid the wall edges of any glaze spill over.

On each wall I created two of raised plaster columns with raised plaster frames in the center using our Raised Plaster Ornate Frame Stencil design.

Completing the music theme, I then stenciled our Life-sized Violin Stencil  in the center over the top of hand painted music sheets.

Designers tip:

Pre-tinting the joint compound with deeply colored craft paints saves tons of time re-painting the design later!
