If you have never tried stenciling or just doing "overlays", this section will show you just how easy it is!

Step 1:
Our overlay stencils have two holes in the top of each overlay to guide you to lining up all the overlays to complete the design. Each overlay has a number cut right in to the stencil as to it's order of use.

Tape stencil #1 to the wall in the desired area. With a pencil, lightly trace inside each registration hole. (To be erased later). Or apply masking tape under the holes and trace on that then remove when done.

Our Stencils are laser cut of 4 mil clear mylar so you can everything you do as you do it! You don't have to wait to take the stencil off! They also bend right in to corners completely eliminating the need to ever measure a room for a particular border design!

Step 2:
Using a stencil brush and either "Stencil Cream Paints" or "Acrylics", get a little paint on the brush and wipe ALL excess off on to a paper towel. Don't worry, there's paint up in the center of the bristles.

Now, using a "swirling" motion, start at the outside edge of the opening and gently swirl your brush toward the center in small circles. Stencil all openings on the overlay.

Leaving the center un-painted will allow a "highlighted", where you want "shading", simply add more pressure or use a darker color.

Swirling rather than "dabbing" will give you an airbrushed look rather than "blotchy".

Step 3:
Line up the registration marks of the #2 stencil with the tracings you made on the wall. Tape the stencil in place and stencil as you did the first overlay.

Here we are doing an overlay that contains shadowing for the cherubs body.

Step 4:
Complete any additional overlays to finish stenciling the design. It's VERY easy and once you have done it, you will no doubt find yourself as addicted as the rest of us are!

We try to keep our overlays to a minimum without sacrificing the detail so that you work less for the same beauty as other designer stencils!

Step 4:
Complete any additional overlays to finish stenciling the design. It's VERY easy and once you have done it, you will no doubt find yourself as addicted as the rest of us are!
All of our stencil designs are "bridgeless" which means that there are no "separations" found in the design as with common craft store stencils so you always get a "hand painted" look when using our designs!

Great little additions you can do!

A great way to  make your stenciled design look even more "hand painted" is to add detail (such as locks of curled hair or little feathers in the wings) added with a tiny artists brush, permanent marker or even water color pencil then spray lightly with an artist's fixative (found in craft stores) to seal.
