| This is one I
can't help but to be very proud of. It's simply breath taking and there are
so many ways you can use it! Create an elegant Victorian Plaster Frame
around your ceiling light fixture...do this stencil and mold set around your
bathroom mirror or over 1/2 of a doorway.
Use
just the mold to create small Rose vignettes for furniture, cabinets and
planter pots for the garden. Remember that the stencil can also be used with
paint.
This
stencil set includes the Raised Plaster vine and leaves stencil that you see
in the background and a rose plaster mold that has a single cabbage rose and
3 leaves.
So easy to use! Spread joint compound over the vine
stencil trailing it anywhere you want. Allow the compound to dry.
Now, using plaster of paris according to the
directions, cast our hand carved cabbage roses and leaves using the plaster
mold included in this set. Cast the number of roses and leaves you want for
your wall design.
Apply
joint compound to the back of each piece as you place it anywhere on to the
stenciled design that you wish. This acts as the glue to bind your plaster
mold pieces to the wall. Fill any gap between the piece and your wall. This
not only creates a firm adhesion, it also makes the entire design look
completely professional. Be sure to wipe away any excess compound with a
damp sponge.
For super realism, try groups of leaves and allow some
leaves to slightly cross others. I like to play with my design a bit before
applying it to the wall by laying out the pieces on to a counter or table
and trying them in different ways until I find just the right lay out. But
you can always follow what I did with this design. I absolutely love it!
Now allow your design to dry completely.
Since plaster of paris and joint compound are very
porous and don't accept paint evenly, I seal my design with either a mixture
of 1/2 water with 1/2 white glue (such as Elmers) or a single coat of
translucent wall glaze before applying any paint finish.
To
create the finish you see above, I painted the entire surface with beige
wall paint mixed with translucent wall glaze, then brushed it over the
design and blotted the wet paint with a dry, lint free towel to give it the
sense of texture. Let the paint dry completely before the addition of
further color.
I
then used Deco Art's "Champagne Gold" metallic paint to give the roses and
leaves a bit of glamour. Simply wipe off excess paint from your artists
brush, lay the brush on it's side and lightly let the bristles glide over
the raised portions of the plaster design. The result is "Antique" Cabbage
Roses.
Hmmm. I haven't re-done my powder room in 5 years!
Maybe it's time for a change!
