Reverse stencils are really cool because they turn the
design inside out! So it's the background that is stenciled and the element
of the design (in this case the leaves) remain the color of your wall.
Reverse stencils are so easy! Simply load a low nap paint
roller ( I love the little pink ones they sell at Lowe's and Home Depot
because they are so easy to handle), then once loaded, simply roll the
excess off on to newspaper or paper towels and roll over the stencil.
Make sure you get off all the excess. It's the paint
way up inside the nap that is the perfect amount to apply. Working with less
paint also prevents bleeding of paint up under the stencil.
This stencil design is great as a chair rail border or
against the ceiling or floor as a reverse 'molding" design (creating the
look of moldings without actually installing them).
Great across the tops of your kitchen cabinets as well
(you know, that bland open space between the cabinet doors and the ceiling).
Now stencil sack cloth kitchen towels to match! Way fun.
