How to create beautiful interior columns

Step 1

Step 2

Step 3

You are not going to believe how ultra easy this is!

You will need:

Our  Large Acanthus Column Top Mold and one 8 foot 1"x 6" board per column (length will depend on the height of your ceilings), a level and a drill with a very small drill bit.

Step 1 Use our  Large Acanthus Column Top Mold with plaster of paris to cast two column tops.

Step 2 Drill very very small holes in the deepest recesses of the cast plaster column top to serve as nail guides. Attach the column top using joint compound and finishing nails (per our instructions) at the ceiling level of your wall. Allow to dry overnight.

Step 3 With a pencil, draw a level line from each of the left and right bottom edges of the column top down to the floor. Using a level will help you to get these guide lines straight.

Apply the second column top (turned upside down) at the floor level, placed within the pencil guide lines so that it's in the exact same position as the top.

Allow to dry overnight.

Step 3 Measure the exact distance between the plaster column top at the ceiling and the one at the floor.

Cut your 1" x 6" board to that exact measurement.

Drill small nail guide holes in two places at each end of the board.

Place the board between the two plaster column tops and tap gently in to place then nail to the wall with finishing nails.

Using joint compound on your finger, fill the gaps between the entire column (from the top to the bottom) with joint compound to make it appear to be part of the wall. Wipe away excess with a damp rag and allow to dry.

Now, you can either paint your columns the same color of your wall or faux finish them with a soft sponging or marble finish, or add Raised Plaster Stenciling to give them even more detail!
