How to paint your linoleum floor

From this: To THIS!

Start with a squeaky clean floor. Allow it to dry completely then prime it  with 2 coats of  Zinser's BIN primer (available at your local home or hardware store). This stuff sticks to anything!

Any household or craft paint will work just fine on your floors because it's not the paint, but rather the primer and sealer that make it durable.

Rather than just plain paint (which will show every scuff and dirt mark), try doing a soft faux finish by blending two colors on to the floor with a sponge. Blending the paint until it the harsh look of both colors is softened will create a very pleasing floor finish.

Seal with 3-4 coats of water based floor sealer (available at your local home/hardware store).

Do follow manufacturers directions closely. So I tend to read the instructions at the store before I choose which sealer to purchase.

For something a little more elaborate and trendy, try using one of our stone or brick patterned designs to create a real looking stone floor. Or use on of our designs to stencil a beautiful border around the outside edge of the floor. The possibilities are endless!

Joannie Valenti, a professional faux finisher created this wonderful area rug the same way. And check out her faux stone floor! Over hard wood floors in one clients house, she stenciled a faux run and believe it or not, faux tennis shoes sitting on the floor. How fun!
