IDAL (which
stands for International Decorative Artisans League) is the former SALI
(Stencil Artisians League). One of the many benefits for IDAL members is
that you can become certified as a professional stencilist.
Janie Gulick set
out to accomplish just that by submitting a room she did for a client using
our
Large
Music Staff Stencil and our Guitar
Stencil.
Here's
what she wrote to me:
Victoria,
I wanted to thank you for the stencils I purchased from you a while ago. I
got the Guitar, Music Staff (notes) and some blank material. I used them on
a project that I submitted for my IDAL certification. I am now a CSA
(Certified Stenciling Artisan)!
The room was for a client who fancies himself a
musician, which was perfect for the Memphis convention. He has a wall full
of guitars and a whole lot of instruments all over the room. I finished the
walls in a multi-layered plaster and the Music Staff was stenciled at chair
rail height around the room.
I used the guitars as the spot motif in groups
throughout the room, between the windows, above the dart board and beside
the doors. For the Fabric I did a floor cloth with the Music staff faintly
stenciled on and 2 Guitars on top. The Wood project was a magazine holder
that I stenciled the Music Staff around all sides (what fun that was the
keep it level) and parts of the Guitar on 3 sides.
Thank you again!

Decorating your home in a unique style can be a simple
as choosing a stencil design to reflect your personality and then
incorporating it in to your decorating scheme. Use the design on walls, rugs
or floor cloths (as Janie did), pillows and even the ceiling. Watch the room
decor go from drab to fab with little effort!
Janie did a great job in this client's home and I'm
sure even Elvis would be just a tich jealous (upper lip raised and quivering
here). Check out her website to see much more of her beautiful work!
