Ultra Elegant Moldings with Gold Leaf

Antique over gold paint

Lay on Gold Leaf

Rub with your fingers

Peel back the paper

Burnish the gold leaf

Ah... there's nothing like gold to make a room drip with elegance!

This molding is on the cabinet of my personal bath upstairs. It was fine but it needed some umph! So I painted it brilliant gold then antiqued it by rubbing thinned dark brown acrylic paint over the egg and dart molding then quickly wiped it off to bring out the design.

I then applied the gold leaf adhesive to the molding and allowed it to dry.

Gold leaf is really cool. It comes on a sheet and you simply lay it over the adhesive and rub the back of the sheet with your fingers. It then adheres itself to the adhesive.

With a soft artists brush, I then burnished the gold leaf by dusting it gently in a swirling motion.

The final result is just breath taking and makes my cabinets look "custom" rather than "stock".

Since I accent that room with gold fixtures, mirror and accessories, the finished look is simply regal!

Give it a try for yourself.

You can find gold leaf at any craft store or buy on line.
