Decorating with Cast Plaster

Step in to the pages of an art book

Kathy Van Gogh didn't aspire to be an artist; she was born one!

Kathy is a professional artist who lends her talents to clients who rave at her luscious ideas.

When I saw this bathroom make-over, it was like I had stepped in to the pages of the ancient art books my Mother used to keep hidden away for those rare moments alone, when she would dream of creating her own masterpieces.

Colors of sea and sand are her choices for making this work of art come together.

Kathy pulls elements from famous paintings for the back wall and begins to elaborate on the "shell" theme.

She frames the tub with columns made from our  Large Acanthus Column Top Mold and 1x6' boards, then casts seashells from other available molds to attach to the tub and lower wall.

On the sink wall, Kathy creates a "broken" wall effect and adds a bit of sky showing through. The cast plaster column makes the perfect element for the opposite side of the broken wall. What natural placement!

If you live in British Columbia and would like Kathy to come do your walls, you can contact her at: fakeit@dccnet.com

Designer's tip: When mounting a piece of this weight, you must first drill little holes in a few places, (yes, the dry plaster drills just fine without breaking, but do use a gentle touch) butter the back with joint compound, put them in to place and then tap the nails in lightly with a hammer and using a counter sink to sink the nail heads down under the plaster exterior. This helps to hold them tightly in place while the joint compound dries).
