Beautiful Inlay work right on the stair landing.

Eddie McMillan has been featured on this site like some coveted movie actor whom we can't get enough of! Talent seeps from his mind and hands like honey oozing from a hive of bees! But when Eddie and I first began exchanging ideas, I had NO idea he had so many avenues of creativity! Not only is he the plaster ceiling mogul of the Victoria Larsen website, he's a master inlay artist (or you would think!).

Here's what Eddie has to say:

"My stairwell has 2 landings and 3 sets of stairs.... its 3 steps to the first landing, turn right then 5 steps to the 2nd landing, then turn right again and 5 steps to the upstairs..... the first landing, that's where the first inlay picture is...... the one called winters eve, and no ma'am...... its not my design, I bought it on ebay, now who would have thought that ?????? it comes as a kit of different veneers that's pre-glued and you punch out and place together like a puzzle, and use a hot iron to attach it to the landing .......it wasn't as simple as it sounds, but I got through it.......lol

Sand used as a colorant ... its not the sand itsself that gave the small fans the dark tint, see..... you put some sand in a pan and then the pan on the stove, just like you were gonna cook something, turn the heat on and heat the sand up........ then stick the veneer in the sand for 5 to 8 seconds, just depending on how hot your sand is heated to, and its more of a burn that it puts on the veneer from the hot sand.......

ok, now on to the 2nd landing..........lol......... and YES MA'AM !!!!! this is my design, but I'm sure I'm not the first to make an oval shaped fan using veneer inlay.........lol, but I haven't seen anything like this in anyone else's staircase......... and like the rest of my upstairs that has turned out sooooooooo COOL !!!!!! so has the staircase and landings.

Heres some pictures of the first landing installed with several coats of polyurethane to give it that high gloss shine and the 2nd one the same finish, but as you can see its not installed because I just put the finish on it a little while ago, but it'll be in the same kind of square oak frame that borders the first landing to make it really jump out at ya !!!!!!

hope you enjoy these pictures and if your ever in my area, it would be my honor to show you our home !!!!!!!!!!!!!!................. Thank you !!!!!!!!!!!.............. Eddie

Now, I'm telling you; if I don't take Eddie up on his offer to tour this fabulous home of his, I'll hate myself in later years!
