Decorating with Plaster Stenciling

A dark office gets an elegant new face lift

As you can see from the before photo this office space in the Idaho home was painted a dark green color that only served to make the room appear smaller and certainly not my style.

I painted the room cream (ah, my favorite wall color because it is warm and is the perfect backdrop for any decorating color or scheme) and then used our Raised Plaster Laureli Frieze Stencil , a large and beautifully detailed design, to create a border against the ceiling.

Because the Raised Stencils don't bend well in to corners, I started in the corners working my way toward the center of the wall. This of course, left a gap in the center of each wall. (Which is fine because I have a fabulous way to deal with that issue!).

After the joint compound was dry, I replaced the stencil over the design and painted the raised design in gold.

In the gap between the two opposing repeats, I placed a medallion of our Small Cartouche Mold that I had painted gold to match the stenciling.

The room suddenly look on a very elegant appearance, with not only the initial raise of the raised stenciling, but a further 3-D element with the mold attachment.

Once we move there, I will have further fun by adding to the decor with plaster frames and faux finishing.
