Decorating with Stencils

A great face lift for tired linoleum!

Dawn Kesey my talented neice who has an adorable sense of decorating, and the wife to the most talented Waterfall architect I've ever seen (Guy Kesey of "Naturescape Water Falls") is much like the rest of this family, with the motto: "If you can't hire it done, by golly, do it yourself!".

Guy and Dawn bought their first home last year on a country road in Redmond, Washington. A HUGE "fixer-upper" with character and charm but badly in need of "good taste".
So Dawn got to work.

Dawn has never faux finished a thing in her whole life, but that certainly didn't stop her. She jumped right in!

Having a hard time finding the very thin masking tape that would be needed to create the grout lines for her new linoleum floor, she finally decided to check the auto supply store and alas there it was (but rather expensive) so she went to "Rodda Paint" (located here in Washington and Oregon and possibly on the web) and it was much more reasonably priced.

Armed with her tape, she laid out the pattern she saw in her mind with the tape.

A good coat of floor primer was first to come. After that was dry, on hands and knees, she began sponging her two different colors of "floor paint" until she was happy with the way it was coming out.

A quick coat of clear sealer, and you can see that Dawn now has an updated floor, in colors that were much more befitting her decorating style and a sense of accomplishment that showed up in the "Cheshire cat" grin on her sweet little face!

Designers tip:

Floor paint is available in many brands at your local home store.

How about stenciling your favorite design around the outside edges before sealing!
